Education-Bachelor's in French and Global Studies (European Concentration) from Sonoma State University
-Master's in French from San Francisco State University
My name is Erica and I recently completed my Masters in French at San Francisco State University (December 2016). Before that, I earned my Bachelors degree in French and Global Studies in May 2013 with honors from Sonoma State University. I tutor French and English as a Second Language, both of which I love!
For students interested in French tutoring:
I am extremely passionate about French! I studied the language for four years in high school and four years in college. I studied abroad in Paris, France during the 2011-2012 academic school year while completing my undergraduate degree. There I attended a French university and took all of my classes in French with native French speakers for one year.
More recently, I returned to Paris and lived there from January-August 2016 as I completed my Masters in French. I was a student at the prestigious Sorbonne university and was enrolled in classes with native French students. I believe my experiences living and studying in France have helped shape me as a French teacher and have given me extended knowledge of the French language and culture.
During the fall 2016 semester, I taught a French 201 (Intermediate French) class at Sonoma State University. Previously, as a Masters student at San Francisco State University, I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant who taught French 101 (beginning French) classes over the course of three semesters. When I attended Sonoma State University, I taught groups of undergraduate students who were in lower division French classes, leading them in conversation classes I designed myself. I have taught French to elementary school, high school, and college aged students and also to adults who are just wishing to learn the language for fun or to achieve personal goals.
For Students Interested in ESL Tutoring:
While I was living in Paris, France, I taught English to classes of both middle schoolers and high schoolers. I created all of my own lesson plans and led the classes by myself. I have worked with large groups of English language learners and also one on one with individuals. I have also taken classes specifically to learn how to teach ESL and have a TESOL certificate.
More recently, I taught English to refugees living in the Sacramento area. I have taught students from many different parts of the world and of all ages. Because I have been studying French for over ten years, I understand what it is like to learn a foreign language and can relate to problems you may be encountering.
If it sounds like I may be able to help you, please contact me! I have tutored over 800 hours of private one-on-one lessons in addition to dozens of hours of classroom experience. I am flexible with my tutoring methods and like to tailor my tutoring style to fit each student's needs. Whatever your goals may be, I will work with you to achieve them.
HobbiesI love traveling, and was fortunate to visit a few different European countries when I spent a year living in Paris. I also enjoy learning about different cultures and people.
I also enjoy all kinds of sports, especially tennis and soccer. I was a member of the FFA (Future Farmers of America) in high school and grew up around all different kinds of animals.
